Man threatens to blow up neighbourhood
A 60-year-old Rodney man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to blow up a Chatham neighbourhood with a suspected pipe bomb.
Chatham-Kent police said the man allegedly showed up at a residence in Chatham at around 7 p.m. Tuesday night where a specific woman and her adult son live -- even though he had been ordered to stay at least 100 metres away from the woman's son and to stop communicating with him.
Investigators said the man then threatened the son while holding a knife as the son was stopping the man from continuing to harass his mother.
The man also allegedly threatened a second man who was also in the area as he was asked to leave.
Police said the accused showed up again a couple of hours later and threatened to blow up the neighbourhood while holding a suspected pipe bomb.
Officers said the son was able to get ahold of the suspected explosive device while the man was taking off in his vehicle.
Police said they were able to safely secure the device and determined it was not a threat or a safety concern.
A suspect was arrested shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday and taken into custody. He was charged with several domestic and weapons-related offences and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Two arrests at Wallaceburg hotel
A man and a woman have both been arrested and charged for different reasons after police found them hanging out together in a hotel room in Wallaceburg Tuesday morning.
Officers said the woman was wanted in connection with two theft-related incidents. She was taken into custody and held pending a bail hearing, then later released with a future court date.
Police said they also learned that a man who was staying with the woman had previously been ordered not to communicate with her or be within 50 meters of her.
As a result, a 34-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was taken into custody and will remain there pending a bail hearing.
