Windsor-Essex records 31 additional COVID-19 cases

The Windsor-Essex region saw an increase of 31 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, 18 of Sunday's cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, three are community-acquired, two are outbreak-related, one is related to travel outside North America and seven cases are still under investigation.

As of Sunday, there are now 13,595 confirmed cases in the region, 293 of which are active cases with 21 hospitalizations. Forty-five preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified.

There were a total of 18 recoveries over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 12,901.

There were zero additional COVID-19 deaths recorded on Sunday with the local death toll remaining at 401 since Tuesday.

As of Sunday, there is now only one outbreak at local retirement or long-term care homes – Leamington Mennonite Home.

There are also seven workplace outbreaks and five community outbreaks.

To date, 39,102 Windsor-Essex residents have gotten their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, up from 37,487 on Saturday. A total of 12,058 individuals have gotten both doses.

In Ontario, provincial health officials logged 1,791 additional cases of the virus on Sunday. The total number of cases in the province is now at 328,874 with 307,403 and 7,241 deaths.
