Windsor-Essex logs 30 more COVID-19 cases

The Windsor-Essex region saw an increase of 30 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, six of the latest cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, four are community-acquired, two are outbreak-related and 18 cases are still under invesgatition.

As of Sunday, there are now 13,772 confirmed cases in the region, 265 of which are active cases. A total of 13,105 individuals have recovered from the virus so far in Windsor-Essex, an increase of 16 recoveries from the previous day.

The number of preliminary or confirmed remained unchanged from Saturday to Sunday, still sitting at 56.

There were no additional deaths logged on Sunday, with the number of fatalities remaining at 402. Sixteen people are currently hospitalized.

Meanwhile, vaccination efforts appear to be going at full-steam in the region. The number of residents who received their first dose of the vaccine jumped from 56,684 on Saturday to 58,990 on Sunday.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials in Ontario reported 2,448 new cases on Sunday, bringing the provincial total to 343,140. There were also 1,543 recoveries reported in Ontario on Sunday and 19 new deaths.
