Health officials in Windsor-Essex are reporting an increase of 100 new COVID-19 cases over the past two days.
A total of 48 cases were recorded on Thursday and 52 cases on Friday. The delay in reporting was due to the Good Friday holiday.
According to the health unit, 17 of the latest cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 10 are community-acquired, one case is related to travel to the U.S. and one is outbreak-related. The remaining 71 cases are still under investigation.
The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 14,208. As of Saturday, there are 391 active cases and 14 hospitalizations. Ninety-one preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified in the region.
The number of outbreaks in the region remained the same over the past two days. There are currently five workplace outbreaks and two community outbreaks.
Meanwhile, the number of vaccines that have been administered in Windsor-Essex over the past 48 hours saw a significant jump.
As of Saturday, 98,225 doses have been administered to residents in the region, up from 93,640 on Thursday.
The next update from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be provided on Tuesday.
Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported daily case counts not seen since mid-January.
According to Health Minister Christine Elliot, 3,009 new cases of the virus were reported in Ontario on Saturday and 3,089 cases on Friday. There were also 39 additional virus-related deaths logged across Ontario.
The province completed 121,400 tests over the past two days. As of Friday evening, 2.4-million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across Ontario.
