Stolen vehicle found burned out

Chatham-Kent police have found an SUV that was reported stolen from a residence on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg over the weekend.

By the time police found it, though, the vehicle was already burned out.

Police said they found what was left of the black 2012 Dodge Durango on Walpole Island on Monday.

Man accused of cashing the same cheque twice

A 42-year-old Chatham man is finding out the hard way that you can't double dip with a government-issued cheque.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested him while they were investigating a fraud complaint at the Money Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham on May 14, 2021.

Police said they reviewed some video surveillance and were able to identify a man who had allegedly cashed a $79 government-issued cheque for the second time on April 12, 2021.

Officers said they found the man at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Inshes Avenue in Chatham and arrested him.

The accused was charged with fraud and later released with a future court date.

Sculptures, KISS memorabilia stolen from storage unit

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into a storage unit on Richmond Street in Chatham last week and stole various items including collectibles, sculptures, KISS memorabilia, a dining tent, an inflatable bed, and some tools.

Police said the break-in took place sometime between May 11 and May 12, 2021 -- the total value of the theft was estimated at $2,400.

Man charged after garage break-in in Ridgetown

A 23-year-old Windsor man has been charged with break and enter and mischief after someone reported a break and enter in progress at a garage on Richard Street in Ridgetown Monday night.

Police said they were called in to investigate at around 10 p.m. Monday and were quickly able to identify a suspect.

He was arrested, charged, and taken into police custody until he sobers up.
