Windsor-Essex logs 29 new COVID-19 cases

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported an increase of 29 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

According to the local health unit, 10 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 10 are community-acquired and two are outbreak-related. The remaining seven cases are still under investigation.

The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 16,322. As of Saturday, there are 344 active cases and 16 hospitalizations. To date, 1,569 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified in the region.

Saturday's case count is slightly lower than previous days in the region. Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 38 new cases on Friday, 36 cases on Thursday and 70 cases on Wednesday.

There were 37 more recoveries reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of resolved cases up to 15,554.

Two more additional workplace outbreaks were also reported on Saturday, bringing the total to 10. There is also one ongoing community outbreak at Southwest Detention Centre

Meanwhile, there were no new deaths reported on Saturday, with the death toll in the region remaining at 424.

As of Saturday, 221,839 residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine, up from 199,856 on Friday.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 1,794 new cases on Saturday, 20 more deaths and 2,520 additional recoveries. Currently, there are 1,207 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province. As of Friday night, the province had administered over 7.9 million doses of the vaccine.
