Man charged for assaulting officer

What started as a call to police about a suspicious person has led to multiple charges for a Chatham man.

Early Sunday morning, police received a call about a man with a large air compressor on Grand Avenue in Chatham.

Officers located the man and discovered that the air compressor was allegedly stolen from a local nearby business.

The man was arrested and taken to the police station. While being booked into custody, he allegedly spat on an officer.

The 25-year-old was charged with break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and assaulting a peace officer.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Impaired driver charged

A Kingsville man has a future court date after getting caught allegedly driving impaired on Blenheim roadways.

On Saturday evening, Chatham-Kent police received reports of vehicle swerving all over Talbot Trail.

Officers located the vehicle and gave the driver a roadside test, which police said he failed.

As a result, the man was arrested for impaired driving. While he was at police headquarters the man blew close to double the legal limit.

The 20-year-old was charged with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.

He was released with a future court date.

Warrant arrests

Two people had to spend some time with police after a pair of separate warrant arrests in Chatham.

On Saturday afternoon, police received information that a man wanted on a surety relief warrant was in the parking lot of St. Clair College in Chatham.

Officers located the man and placed him under arrest.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and immediately escorted back to South West Detention Centre.

Elsewhere, on Saturday evening, a police officer on general patrol spotted a woman walking on Sixth Street.

The woman was known to police and police checks revealed that she was wanted on two separate warrant arrests for failing to attend court.

The 26-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she has been held for bail.
