Comber woman charged with fraud

A 50-year-old Comber woman is facing several fraud charges after police were called to investigate some suspicious activity at a business on Mill Street in Tilbury.

Police said they were notified by someone at the business that they were carrying out an internal investigation into fraudulent activity on September 17, 2022.

Then, on October 17, 2022, police learned that the woman had allegedly made several fraudulent transactions dating back to September 2021.

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old Comber woman was arrested and charged with nine counts of fraud under $5,000.

She was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Disturbance call in Chatham leads to arrest, charges

A 30-year-old Chatham-Kent man is in more trouble with the law after police allegedly found him visiting a home he was supposed to stay away from.

Police said they found the man inside a residence on Amelia Street in Chatham at around 10:45 a.m. Monday, even though the man had previously been released with conditions that ordered him to stay away from that address and to not contact the homeowner.

Officers said he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

The accused was arrested, charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, and taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Thamesville man turns himself in after social media message

A 31-year-old Thamesville man spent the night in Chatham-Kent police custody after he allegedly sent a message to a woman he was banned from communicating with.

Police said the man was released on Sunday with a condition that required him to stop contacting a specific woman.

Despite that, police said they learned on Monday afternoon that the man had tried to contact the woman via social media.

The man turned himself in a few hours later.

He was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
