Polls closed for Chatham-Kent municipal election

Polling stations are now closed for the municipal election in Chatham-Kent.

The polls were open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday.

Only one race had been decided by the time the polls closed, with only two candidates running in Ward 5 (Wallaceburg). Incumbents Carmen McGregor and Aaron Hall have already secured the two open seats in that ward.

Heading into election day, voter turnout was down compared to the previous municipal election in Chatham-Kent.

There were 2,857 votes cast at this year’s advance polls and 7,366 votes cast online via Internet voting for a total of 10,223 votes cast.

There were 12,078 advance votes cast in the 2018 election.

By the end of the 2018 election, 34,722 votes were cast in Chatham-Kent, making up 45.44 per cent of the eligible total. That was up from 42.11 per cent voter turnout in 2014 and 39.93 per cent turnout in 2010.
