Woman accused of stealing full cart of items from Walmart in Chatham

A Chatham woman has been charged with theft after allegedly walking out Walmart with a full cart of items before fleeing the store.

Chatham-Kent police said just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to a shoplifting complaint at the Walmart.

Security told police the woman had walked out of the store with a cart full of items and took off in a vehicle.

Police intercepted the vehicle and stopped the alleged shoplifter on Third Street.

She was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.

Police said she was also found to be driving with a suspended licence and faces a charge for that as well.

She was released from custody with a future court date.

Chatham-Kent police nab three people driving while impaired 

Chatham-Kent police were kept busy Saturday dealing with three motorists that were arrested for driving while impaired.

A man was arrested after police responded to a call about a driver crashing head-on into a parked vehicle in the area of Young Street in Tilbury around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver was still on scene when officers arrived and he was arrested for impaired driving, police said.

The accused was taken to hospital with minor injuries where he also provided two breath samples, which resulted in a charge of impaired operation over 80.

Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, officers had just completed a RIDE program in Chatham when they saw a vehicle driving erratically on Inshes Avenue.

The vehicle pulled in a driveway and officers stopped to speak to the woman driving.

Through investigation, officers formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired driving.  She was transported to police headquarters where she refused to provide breath samples.

The woman was charged with impaired operation and refusal to provide breath samples.

Another woman was also arrested for impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop on Vanier Drive in Chatham just after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol and administered a roadside breath test, which resulted in a fail.

The woman was arrested for impaired operation over 80 and taken to the station for further breath tests.

All three accused were released with future court dates.

Chatham-Kent police assisted by area police in arresting two men

Police in Chatham-Kent received some help help by Windsor police and Lakeshore OPP in arresting to two men wanted in separate incidents.

Windsor police called around 8 a.m. to report they had a 29-year-old man in custody wanted by Chatham-Kent police.

A local officer travelled to the Windsor police station and arrested the accused for theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of property over $5,000.

About an hour later, Lakeshore OPP called to say they had a 22-year-old Wallaceburg male in custody wanted by Chatham-Kent police for failing to attend court.

A local officer went to the OPP detachment and arrested the accused.

Both men were released with future court dates.
