Drug bust in Chatham turns up fentanyl, meth
Five people are facing charges after police carried out a drug bust in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they recovered about $36,000 worth of fentanyl and methamphetamine during the search in Chatham on Wednesday.
Officers said the search was part of an ongoing drug investigation, adding that they also seized multiple digital scales and some other drug-related equipment.
All five of the people who were arrested were charged with multiple drug-related offences including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Two of the accused, a 22-year-old Chatham man and a 43-year-old man from Sarnia, were held for a bail hearing.
Three others -- a 32-year-old London man, a 42-year-old Chatham woman, and a 59-year-old Chatham man -- were all released with conditions and a future court date.
Police said a sixth person is also set to be charged at a later date.

Break-in at Chatham business
Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they investigate a break-in at a business on Richmond Street in Chatham.
Police said they were called to investigate that just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, adding that someone had smashed the front door, causing about $800 in damage.

Warning about Carbon Tax Credit scam
Chatham-Kent police are warning the public about a Carbon Tax Credit scam that is making the rounds right now.
Police said the victims get a phone call claiming to offer them the tax credit and are then asked for their personal financial information to deposit the credit into their account.
Officers are reminding you not to give out personal information over the phone and recognize the warning signs including:
- calls offering government-related tax benefits
- unsolicited calls requesting personal and banking information
- unsolicited calls asking you to confirm your personal and financial information
You should always beware of unsolicited calls where the caller asks you for your personal information including your name, your address, your birthdate, your Social Insurance Number, and your credit card or banking information.
