An annual tradition of local musicians sharing their talents to help feed the hungry is back after a three-year hiatus.
The 18th annual Holiday Jam for Hunger will be held at the Sons of Kent Brewing Company in Chatham on Wednesday, December 28, beginning at 7 p.m. with all the proceeds benefitting two local organizations.
Alysson Storey, who has organized the event for the last seven years, said addressing food insecurity became the focus of the event several years ago.
"All of the musicians playing have strong connections to Chatham-Kent and want to support local organizations like Hope House, which is filling such an important need," said Storey. "I'm happy to say the Holiday Jam annual events have raised close to $25,000 for local charities."
Noting different community organizations have benefited from each concert, Storey said Chatham Outreach for Hunger has become the annual recipient as the need continues to grow every year.
"Many of the participating musicians have been involved with the Hunger Jam over the years," said Storey.
New this year are two bands - Britney and the Boys, 40 Hours Over - that started out of a local school connection.
Kings of the North will headline the show.
"I was thrilled when Kings of the North agreed to join us for this event," said Storey. "They are such a talented band and play a lot of music that you love but you rarely hear live."
Sons of Kent and an anonymous donor are sponsoring this year’s event.
Admission is by donation.
