CK bans street parking until Tuesday afternoon

Parking on the street is a no-no for the next 72 hours in Chatham-Kent.

The municipality's ban is in effect until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27.

The ban takes effect at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

"We are asking motorists to make every effort to move their vehicles off the streets so that the ploughs can clear the roads more effectively," said Director of Public Works Ryan Brown. "We recognize that this is an inconvenience, but there are no other options. Emergency vehicles, citizens, and local businesses all depend on these streets being cleared as quickly as possible."

The municipality also reminds residents that shoveling snow or ice onto the road, shoulders, and sidewalks is a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

"Please do not shovel, push, snow plough, or deposit snow onto the roadway, shoulders, or sidewalks," Brown continued. "This hampers our operations, may cause snowy or slippery conditions for pedestrians or vehicles, and delay our clean-up."

Brown said the parking ban would be lifted as soon as conditions allow.
