Former CK police investigator, community volunteer, passes away

Chatham-Kent has lost a beloved community member, longtime volunteer, and former police inspector.

Tim Mifflin, who spent 32 years on the Chatham-Kent Police Service and 30 years as an active member of the Chatham Goodfellows, has died at the age of 63.

"He was an excellent leader," said Goodfellows Director of Porchlight Craig Williston. "He's going to be very well missed."

As an active member of the Goodfellows, Mifflin was a well-known community figure.

"He always had his hand in everything," said Tim Haskell, who volunteered alongside Mifflin for many years with the Goodfellows. "He would come out to deliver toys, food, and help with the porch light event. He would come to all of the different events."

Haskell said the news of Mifflin's passing came as a shock, as it did for many of the Goodfellows members.

"He's a good friend and it's one of those things, that when you lose someone like that, it shocks you," said Haskell.

Looking back on their friendship, Haskell said the two would often get mistaken for one another, adding it was always a reason to make them laugh.

"I don't know how many times I have been called Mr. Mifflin," said Haskell. "I never minded being mixed up for him because he was such a great guy."

Mifflin started his policing career in 1980 with the Chatham Police Service. During his 32 years of service, he worked in various areas from the road to the criminal investigation division. He was promoted to inspector where he continue to play a prominent role in the development of the now Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Mifflin retired from the police service in 2012.
