An upcoming construction project in downtown Chatham won't affect the Chatham Concert Band from playing their summer series at Tecumseh Park.
The municipality asked event organizers back in August to temporarily move from Tecumseh Park this summer because part of the project includes the reconstruction of streets surrounding the park.
"We've been doing concerts at Tecumseh Park since 1928," said Chatham Concert Band President Mark Broadbent. "I was really disappointed at the thought of potentially moving."
According to a previous report, municipal officials said the construction project would temporarily relocate approximately 10 special events that are held in Tecumseh Park for the year 2023.
The band received confirmation on Monday that the group would be able to host their concerts on Wednesday nights in the park after all.
"The municipality has been really good about everything," said Broadbent.
The first phase of the Tecumseh Park area sewer separation will involve the following streets: Stanley Avenue from the Thames River to William Street North, William Street North from Stanley Avenue to Colborne Street, and Colborne Street from William Street North to Adelaide Street North.
According to Broadbent, concert-goers will be able to park at the Cultural Centre and gain access to the park from the footbridge or nearby walkway.
"It's nice the municipality has made this compromise," said Broadbent. "It's great residents will be able to access the park and enjoy our concerts this season."
This will be the Chatham Concert Band's 94th year performing at Tecumseh Park in downtown Chatham. The first concert will be held on June 28, 2023.
