A Chatham-Kent Sports Hall of Famer and Canadian Football League (CFL) great will be sharing his football knowledge with young players at a clinic in Chatham this weekend.
Former CFL player Dan Comiskey will be a special guest at the "Big Man" clinic to be held at Chatham-Kent Secondary School on Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m. The players will learn how to block and how to get-off-a-block from Comiskey.
He said it's very important to return to his roots and give back to the community.
"Really just want to be proactive and be around young men that could use help. Whether that's coaching or a little bit of positive influence, that kind of stuff," said Comiskey.
Comiskey said playing offensive line is very technical and the clinic will help players develop strength, speed, and explosive power.
"I'm going to teach them about playing O line and D line. I have a number of tricks that I'm going to be teaching that there's no way I was going to learn in high school in that age group just because it's from being around guys who played for years. So, I've got a bunch of tricks that I'll be teaching them," Comiskey added.
Comiskey played in the CFL for 13 seasons, was a perennial all-star, and was part of two Grey Cup Championships with the Edmonton Eskimos. He's also a University of Windsor Alumni and a Chatham Collegiate Institute Cougar Alumni.
The clinic costs $10 and is open to boys and girls in grades 5 to 12+. The students will be divided into groups based on age, size, and ability.
The players should bring running shoes and a water bottle.
