CK Council gives green light to Greenfield project
Chatham-Kent Council has agreed to move ahead with a proposed waste-to-energy facility in partnership with Greenfield Global.
The CK Waste-to-Energy project will be located at 175 Bloomfield Road across from Greenfield Global.
A report to council Monday night stated the project will capitalize on the growing demand for renewable natural gas (RNG) production and carbon credits while also advancing the objectives of CK's Climate Change Action Plan through organic waste diversion and value-add generation.
It's also expected to support sustainability objectives of the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission, support wastewater treatment objectives at the Greenfield Chatham Ethanol facility, and help local greenhouses and farms in the Chatham-Kent area to reduce their carbon emissions by displacing their inorganic-based fertilizers with biobased fertilizers.
Their next steps are to finalize "Black Book" engineering processes, complete design capital cost, and complete the legal framework to begin production in mid-2026.

CK council approves purchase agreement for Queen's Line roundabout land
Chatham-Kent council has approved an agreement with two farms to buy land for the construction of a roundabout at Queen's Line and Merlin Road west of Chatham.
The agreement, laid out in a report that went to CK Council Monday night, recommended that the municipality pay $48,000 an acre for the required land, which came out to just under one full acre, for a total of just over $80,000.
The report said the negotiations took about seven months.
The recommendation was passed as part of the "consent agenda" in Monday night's meeting without any further discussion.
