Crash results in dangerous driving charge

A 53-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with dangerous driving after an early morning crash in Chatham that sent his passenger to the hospital.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the crash on Grand Avenue West in Chatham at 1 a.m. Friday and learned that a vehicle hit a building, resulting in significant property damage.

A passenger in the vehicle was also hurt to the point where they needed to go to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A 53-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested in connection with the case and charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police find meth on Dresden man during domestic investigation

A 35-year-old Dresden man is facing drug-related charges after he allegedly tried to visit his wife -- even though he had been ordered to stay away from her.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the man after they were called to an address on Park Street in Dresden for a disturbance at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officers said they learned that the man had allegedly called his wife and went into an address where she was known to be looking for her.

Police said they confirmed that he had previously been ordered not to go within 100 meters of her and to stay away from the address, so he was arrested once officers found him.

When police were searching the man, they also allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine on him.

He was charged with one count of drug possession and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions and was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Wallaceburg man arrested for criminal harassment

A 42-year-old Wallaceburg man is finding out the hard way that the next step after a warning from police is an arrest.

Police said they arrested the man while they were following up on a harassment complaint on Elgin Street in Wallaceburg at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Officers said the man allegedly pulled up in a vehicle and stopped to yell at someone who was taking out their garbage even though the man had been cautioned several times previously not to communicate with the victim.

Police arrested the man when they found him and charged him with criminal harassment.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man arrested for shoplifting in Chatham

A 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a pair of charges after police were called to a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham for a shoplifting investigation Thursday night.

Police said they were called there just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday and were able to identify a suspect by reviewing some video surveillance.

The man was later arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

He was released with conditions and a future court date.
