Chatham-Kent man arrested for second time in as many months

On July 26, Chatham-Kent police responded to reports of a possibly impaired driver in a parking lot on St. Clair Street.

According to police, they attempted to initiate a traffic stop when they reached the parking lot, but the driver didn't comply.

"The driver disregarded the officer’s instructions and accelerated through the parking lot, heading directly toward an officer who was on foot. The officer had to quickly move out of the way to avoid being hit by the vehicle," police said.

The vehicle continued eastbound on Pioneer Line, eventually leaving the roadway and ending up in a ditch. The driver then tried to run on foot, but was reportedly stopped by witnesses.

Due to injuries sustained during the incident, the man was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Police determined that the involved vehicle had been reported stolen from Leamington.

They also discovered that the man was under a probation order from British Columbia, which included specific conditions prohibiting him from driving a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, as well as from possessing or consuming alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicating substances that were not prescribed to him.

A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested at 9:55 on Wednesday and charged with multiple offences. These charges include:

• possession of stolen property

• assault with a weapon

• fleeing from a peace officer

• dangerous driving

• operating a motor vehicle while prohibited

• impaired driving

• two counts of failing to comply with a probation order

Traffic stop leads to charges against two people

Police officers on general patrol conducted a traffic stop on Princess Street South in Chatham just before 8 p.m.

During the stop, police discovered that the male driver had a court ordered curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. unless accompanied by his surety. The female passenger in the vehicle was not his surety, which caused police to arrest the driver.

Further investigation found that the woman was wanted on several outstanding warrants. When police placed her under arrest they reportedly found a wallet with identification that wasn't hers and suspected methamphetamine.

A 42-year-old Highgate man was charged with failing to comply with a release order.

A 40-year-old Highgate woman was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and failing to comply with a release order as well as charges related to the warrants.

Assault charges follow family dispute

Chatham-Kent police responded to a family dispute in Wallaceburg early Thursday morning.

Police found that the man involved in the incident had arrived to a Base Line Road home already intoxicated.

"A verbal argument ensued between the man and the homeowner, which eventually escalated into a physical assault," police said.

Officers attempted to calm the situation, but had to use a conducted energy weapon to safely arrest the man.

A 22-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with assault.

Violent argument leads to arrest

A woman was injured in Tilbury on Wednesday night.

Police responded at 10:33 p.m. to Dashwheel Line for the reports of a domestic disturbance.

According to the responding officers, a heated verbal argument between a man and a woman escalated to physical violence. The man allegedly pushed the woman and forcefully slammed a door on her leg, causing minor injuries.

A 31-year-old Windsor man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The man has been released from police custody with conditions and a future court date of September 18.
