Drug-impaired driver spotted in a parking lot
A 38-year-old Blenheim man is facing a drug-impaired driving charge after he was allegedly picked up by police from a parking lot in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the business on St. Clair Street shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible impaired driver, adding that when officers arrived, they found the driver unconscious in the vehicle.
Police said the man was taken to the hospital where staff determined he was impaired by a drug.
A 38-year-old Blenheim man was later charged with impaired driving and was later released from the hospital with conditions and a future court date.

Man with prior run-ins with police arrested for skipping court again
A 45-year-old Wallaceburg man is getting a lot of face-time with Chatham-Kent police -- for all the wrong reasons.
Police said the man was initially arrested at the end of June last year and charged with assault, theft, and indecent acts.
He was released later that same day with a future court date in August 2022, but allegedly failed to show up for that, so police issued a warrant for his arrest.
Officers said they caught up with the man again a couple of months later in November 2022 after someone called them to let them know the same man had allegedly threatened to kill his neighbour.
Police arrested the man a second time and charged him with uttering threats and mischief.
Officers said he was later released with a future court date, but allegedly skipped out on a scheduled appearance on May 18, 2023.
Police caught up with him on Thursday and took him into custody, where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham woman arrested for skipping court
A 26-year-old Chatham woman is in more trouble with the law after she allegedly skipped a scheduled court appearance in the spring.
Police said they arrested her on March 21 and charged her with theft before releasing her with conditions and a future court date.
Officers said the woman then failed to show up for her scheduled court date on April 3, so they got a warrant for her arrest.
She was arrested at around 3:45 a.m. Friday and taken to police headquarters in Chatham, then later released to Sarnia police for other outstanding charges.
