Man arrested after hitting parked truck with his scooter

A Chatham man who was out on a conditional sentence is back in police custody after he allegedly went out past his curfew and hit a parked truck with his pedal scooter.

Chatham-Kent police said an off-duty officer found the man lying on the road in Chatham near the officer's residence at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The off-duty officer was able to determine that the man was intoxicated and had fallen off of his pedal scooter but was otherwise OK.

Police were able to identify the man and determined that he had hit a parked truck, causing minor damage.

They also learned that he was currently out on a conditional sentence with a curfew of 9 p.m.

As a result, the 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested, charged with one count of breaching a conditional sentence order, and taken into custody.

Man accused of threatening victim and child in domestic case

A 26-year-old Chatham man is facing two threats-related charges after he allegedly threatened someone via text messages and phone calls.

Police said officers were called to investigate that shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said the man allegedly threatened the victim, who had previously been in an intimate relationship with him, after the victim got into an argument over the phone with the man's new significant other.

Police said the man allegedly threatened to hurt the victim and the victim's child through some text messages and phone calls.

The accused was arrested and charged with one count of uttering threats to kill and one count of uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Woman allegedly caught shoplifting twice from the same store

A 62-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with theft after she tried to get out of the Real Canadian Superstore with a five-finger discount -- twice in a week.

CK police said the first time was on September 7.

Officers said the woman allegedly went into the store on that date and tried to leave without paying for the items she had just selected. A Loss Prevention employee stopped her on her way out and she returned the items when she was confronted. She was trespassed from the property at that point.

Police said the woman went back to the store on September 13 and allegedly placed a number of items in her bag before trying to walk out without paying for them.

She was confronted by staff again and returned the items.

Police were able to confirm the woman's identity and they tracked her down. She was charged with one count of theft and was taken to police headquarters then later released with a future court date.
