Wanted man from Walpole Island found during traffic stop

A 46-year-old Walpole Island man who was already wanted for skipping his court date is in even more trouble with the law.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol found the man while conducting a traffic stop on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg just after 7 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the man was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, adding that the officer was able to confirm that the man was not only wanted for missing his court date, but he was also supposed to be in his residence between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

The man was arrested, charged, and taken back to police headquarters.

He was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Man leaves behind a bag with stolen items inside

A 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a handful of charges after police found a bag with some stolen items in it at the Winners on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the store just before noon on Sunday and learned that a man had exited the store and left his bag behind.

Officers said they found what they suspected to be stolen property when they looked inside it.

Police were able to identify the man after reviewing some video surveillance and they found him a short distance away.

It turned out the man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in connection with several theft investigations.

Police said the man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with four counts each of theft and possession of stolen property along with one count each of failing to show up for court, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with an appearance notice.

Man accused of stealing from store he was banned from attending

A 48-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after he allegedly stole some items from a local convenience store he had been ordered to stay out of.

CK police said they were called for that just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mac's Convenience on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

Officers said they were told the man had removed some items from the shelves of the store and had left without paying for them.

Police also learned that the same man had been released from court on July 6 with a probation order that required him to stay away from that specific store.

An officer searched the area and found the man.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
