Chatham-Kent man charged after allegedly using counterfeit cash at Wallaceburg pizza shop

A 36-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges months after using counterfeit money at a pizza joint in Wallaceburg.

Police were called to Dominos on February 22 to investigate after the man used fake cash to purchase food from the restaurant.

Officers say the transaction was caught on surveillance and a local bank confirmed the money was counterfeit.

Police located and arrested the man who was then released with conditions and a court date.

A warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to show up.

The man was spotted walking on King Street at around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of possessing counterfeit money and two counts of uttering counterfeit money.

Man arrested after foot chase in Chatham

A 35-year-old Chatham-Kent man has found himself back in custody after leading police on a foot chase in Chatham.

Police say the man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, was stopped by officers on Wellington Street West just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

After a short foot chase, the man was arrested and taken into custody.

The 35-year-old was charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date.

Wanted man arrested after run-in with police in Chatham

A 53-year-old man is facing theft-related charges after running into police while out for a walk in Chatham.

Police say officers saw the man walking on Murray Street in Chatham just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers confirmed the man was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters and charged with break-and-enter, theft over $5,000, and theft under $5,000.

He was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Walpole Island man found slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle

A 36-year-old Walpole Island man is facing several charges after being found slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle.

Police were called to the parking lot of Syneview Motel for a well-being check at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday after someone observed the man slumped over the wheel.

Officers believed the man was under the influence of an intoxicating substance and arrested him for impaired driving.

The man, who was prohibited from possessing a weapon, was also allegedly found with suspected fentanyl and a switchblade knife.

The 36-year-old man was charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order.

Windsor man charged with assault following disturbance in Ridgetown

 A 47-year-old Windsor man is facing charges after a verbal argument took a violent turn.

Police say they were called to a home on George Street in Ridgetown just after 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday for reports of a disturbance.

Investigators learned the man was visiting the victim.

The two were engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when the man assaulted and threatened the victim. The man also broke a television in the home. 

 Police located the man a short distance away and arrested him.

The man was charged with assault, uttering threats, and mischief.

He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date.

Numerous Traffic Street Signs Damaged in Rondeau

Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s help as officers investigate a case of mischief in Rondeau.

Police said between Wednesday and Thursday, an individual believed to be driving a pickup truck struck and knocked over all the traffic signs at Kent Bridge Road and Wildwood Line in Rondeau, including a stop sign.

Damage is estimated at approximately $1,500, according to police.

"Tampering with traffic signs is a serious offence and can have severe consequences. It is not only illegal, but it poses a serious risk to public safety," said police in a stern statement issued on Thursday.
