After nearly three decades in a leadership role, Gail Hundt is stepping away from the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce.
Her departure was announced last Thursday during the Chamber of Commerce's annual general meeting.
"I thoroughly enjoy my position and all the people that I have the privilege of working with," said Hundt. "But, what I can say, is life is short. I have parents that will both be turning 90 in a few months, I want to explore more time with my grandchildren, husband, and my siblings. It was time."
Previous to her employment with the Chamber in 1996, Hundt worked in the financial industry. Hundt started out volunteering as a member business before taking on a board of director position with the chamber of commerce.
In 1996, an opportunity came up for the position of president and CEO and Hundt took it.
"I have had the privilege working with business representatives anywhere from a one person home-based entrepreneurial to corporate representatives," said Hundt. "Over my 28 years, I have seen many different things happen in our economy - locally, federally, and globally. There's never been a dull moment."
Looking back over the course of her career, Hundt said one of her greatest achievements was her growth as an individual and respecting the challenges of business as well as the "blood, sweat, and tears" their representatives put into their businesses.
"Everybody helps one another in the community," said Hundt. "They want each other to prosper."
Hundt's last day on the job will be June 27, 2024.
"I truly believe my successor can and should take this chamber on to great things because this is a wonderful organization to work with, not just in Chatham-Kent but across Ontario and Canada."
When asked what she will miss the most, Hundt said she will miss the board of directors that she's been able to work with over the last 28 years.
"In my 28 years in the Chamber, I have been able to work with 28 boards of directors," said Hundt. "I have had the capacity to learn from them and expand with them."
