Wanted man found sleeping in a chair
A 45-year-old Chatham man who was wanted by police for a bail violation is facing more charges after officers interrupted his late-morning snooze.
Chatham-Kent police said they found the man while they were conducting a well-being check on him because he was slumped over in a chair outside of a multi-unit building on Michener Road in Chatham at around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said when they arrived, the man was sleeping.
Officers said their investigation showed that the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant connected to a bail violation in November 2023.
When police searched the man, they also reported finding some suspected fentanyl on him.
The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
He was charged with failing to comply with a release order and drug possession.

Man wanted for assault and theft arrested overnight
An 18-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was already "known to officers" is facing a pair of charges after police caught up with him early Wednesday morning.
Police said they found the man on Grand Avenue East in Chatham at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday while they were following up on an unrelated matter.
Officers said the man was wanted for a theft investigation from February 23 and an assault investigation from March 3.
He was charged with two counts each of theft and possession of stolen property along with one count each of assault and assault causing bodily harm.
The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Police catch up with man accused of skipping court
A 49-year-old Chatham-Kent man has a new date to circle on his calendar after he allegedly skipped a scheduled court appearance.
Officers said they found the man on Warwick Drive in Chatham just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and confirmed he was wanted for failing to attend court in connection with a theft investigation from January.
The man was later released with a new court date in April.
He is charged with two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property.

Two arrests for the price of one
Chatham-Kent police managed to snag two men who were both wanted on outstanding warrants after officers responded to an alarm at a business on Park Avenue East Tuesday night.
Police said they were called in just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and found two men on Payne Street after searching the area.
One of the men who was arrested is a 46-year-old Chatham-Kent resident who allegedly skipped his court date on February 20.
He is currently facing several charges including six counts of failing to attend court and other offences including obstructing a peace officer and breaking and entering.
The second man who was arrested is facing even more charges including eight counts of theft, eight counts of possession of stolen property, and two counts each of failing to attend court and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Both of the accused were taken to police headquarters where they were set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Long arm of the law catches up with wanted Wallaceburg man
The law has come calling for a Wallaceburg man who was wanted for violating his release conditions and damaging a cell phone.
Chatham-Kent police said they caught up with him just after 10 p.m. Tuesday at a convenience store on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.
Officers reportedly recognized the man from previous encounters and they were able to confirm that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Police said he was wanted for damaging a cell phone on March 8 in Wallaceburg and for moving to a new address without telling police, which was a violation of his release conditions.
The 29-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with mischief and failing to comply with a release order and he was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

CK man arrested for assault in downtown Chatham
A 52-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly caused some injuries to someone else's face.
Police said they arrested him after they were called to Fifth Street in Chatham at around 10 p.m. Tuesday for an assault investigation.
The man was charged with assault and he was taken to police headquarters before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Two men out past their curfew, one with an ankle monitor
A pair of Chatham-Kent men who were supposed to be home by 11 p.m. are in more trouble with the law after they stayed out past their court-imposed curfew.
In the first case, police said a 33-year-old Thamesville man was released from the court in August last year with a condition that required him to be home between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Officers got a warrant for his arrest after he was not home at 12:30 a.m. on February 6.
Police found him at 11:26 p.m. on Sherman Street in Thamesville and took him back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
In the second case, CK police arrested a 30-year-old Chatham man after an ankle monitoring company notified officers that the man was tracked to an area outside of his residence past his 11 p.m. curfew on March 12.
Officers showed up at the location in Wallaceburg and arrested the man.
He was charged with failing to comply with a release order and was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.
