New CK tourism signs could be on the way for Hwy. 401

Chatham-Kent is looking at updating its tourism signs on Highway 401.

CK Supervisor of Tourism Development Shannon Paiva said the signs were originally installed in 2010 and the graphics on the signs has not been updated since then.

The signs are located on Highway 401 eastbound at Essex County Road 42 and westbound at County Road 20/Orford Road.

If approved, the cost would be $13,300 and the money will come from tourism reserves.

The issue goes before Council Monday night.

Paiva noted the public will be engaged through the Let’s Talk CK platform to help choose the final design on the signs.

The design options will be available for viewing and voting on for a period of no less than two weeks.

The design with the most votes will then be announced and shared with the public.

Paiva also said it takes approximately four months for the new signs to be built and installed and they need approval from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
