Woman allegedly assaults employee after being asked to leave business

A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing a handful of charges after she allegedly went into a business she was banned from and then assaulted one of the employees.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called in at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, adding that the woman went into the business on Grand Avenue West despite the ban and refused to leave when employees asked her to go.

Police said that led to a "physical altercation" where one of the employees received minor injuries.

Officers said the woman left the scene before they arrived, but they were able to find her a short distance away.

When police tried to take her into custody, she allegedly tried to run away, leading to a short foot chase.

The 32-year-old was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

She is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, one count of assault causing bodily harm, and one count of escaping lawful custody.
