Concerns about potential Listeria contamination have led to a recall of back bacon.
Pavao Meats and Deli Ltd, which uses the brand name European Butcher, is recalling Canadian back bacon sold in Ontario, due to possible Listeria uncovered in test results by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recall concerns European Butcher brand packaging sold in halves, slices, and chunks.
Package sizes are variable, and the UPCs involved are as follows.
Starting with 0-215096 for back bacon halves
Starting with 0-200386 for back bacon chunks
Starting with 0 200029 for back bacon slices
The batch number for all three varieties in question is 177.
No illnesses have been reported.
"Food contaminated with [Listeria] may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick," read the recall notice. "Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk."
