A CK slo-pitch legend has passed away

Robert "Bob" Weedon is leaving behind family, friends, and a huge community of sports lovers who are mourning his passing.

His obituary announced his peaceful death at the Copper Terrace Nursing Home in Chatham, on Saturday, November 9.

Weedon leaves behind a large family including his wife of 56 years, along with his children, and grandchildren.

He was also beloved by the Chatham-Kent community, as he was involved in local sports for over 50 years.

Weedon was the president of the Maple City Slo-Pitch League for 42 years.

"Bob was a vital part of our Association for 35 years," Slo-Pitch Ontario (SPO) said in a statement on Facebook. "His accomplishments on the field, not only as a Player, but also as a Coach and an Umpire, and administratively off the field, are far too numerous to list in their entirety..."

The statement added that his inductions as a builder of the sport in both the SPO Hall of Fame and the Softball Ontario Hall of Fame barely begin to recognize how much he accomplished out of his love of sport.

"[SPO] will always be incredibly thankful for Bob's dedication to the sport we love, and we gratefully acknowledge his efforts, his unwavering commitment, and the contributions he made to the development and promotion of the sport of slo-pitch," the statement said.

He was also inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

In 2021, the ball diamonds at St. Clair College's Chatham campus were named after him.

Weedon won't be soon forgotten in Chatham-Kent.

A visitation was held at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home in Chatham (245 Wellington St. W.) on Thursday, November 14. A memorial service was conducted in the chapel of the funeral home the same day.

Anyone wishing to express their condolences through donation is asked to consider the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.
