The municipality is suggesting going paperless or hand delivering items to avoid missed payments or late fees.
On Friday, about 55,000 unionized postal workers went on strike, which will cause mail-related disruptions for some municipal services.
Chatham-Kent acknowledges that mailed items such as payments, applications, building permits, registrations, or other documents could be delayed in arrival. Despite that, the municipality said in a statement that "payment due dates will not change and late fees will still apply should payments be missed."
To avoid late fees, interruptions, or delays, residents are encouraged to use alternate payment or delivery methods where possible. Those methods include, bringing mail directly to a Municipal Service Centre or Customer Service Drop Box, using email where possible, and arranging pre-authorized payments.
More information about setting up alternate pay methods with the municipality can be found here.
