CK Accessibility Awards accepting nominations

Time is running out to submit nominations for the 2025 Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee Awards.

Three awards are handed out every year.

The Sid Ebare Perseverance Award is presented to an individual who stands out as a person who perseveres beyond their limitations to participate in community life; the Sheila Lindsey Powers Accessibility Advocate Award is given to an individual in this community who stands out as an advocate for the inclusion of people with all abilities; and the Dr. Veronica Vaughn Accessible Business Award is presented to a business that stands out as providing an accessible facility and/or accessible customer service.

"The goal is to recognize individuals and or businesses and organizations that make the extra effort to make sure that they are making our community, or they're building and facility, specifically accessible to more people in the community," said CK councillor and committee member Alysson Storey.

The deadline to nominate a person or a business is Wednesday, April 30.

"There's a few different ways you can submit a nomination, and it can be for things small to big," said Storey. "We don't want to limit it, but we want to make sure that everyone who tries to make our community more welcoming and inclusive to all gets recognized."

Paper nomination forms are available at any municipal service centre or CK library branch, or online at https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/accessibility-awards.

"It's very straightforward, we want to keep it simple. So it's just some contact information and a short description of why you think that either person or that business should be nominated, and we take it from there," said Storey.

The 2025 Accessibility Awards will be presented during the June 9 council meeting.
