Break-in suspect accidentally drops his plunder after theft

A 42-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a shed in Chatham and stole a tin of pellet gun BBs.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday for a break-in report and learned that when the suspect was confronted by the property owner, he took off and inadvertently dropped the stolen items along the way.

Police said they found the suspect a short distance from the scene and arrested him.

While officers were searching him, they found a pair of bolt cutters in his possession.

The accused was charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, and failing to comply with a probation order.

Police said he was also wanted on several outstanding warrants and was set to be held for bail.

Woman arrested after driving into garage

A 32-year-old Ridgetown woman is facing a handful of charges including impaired driving and mischief after she allegedly rammed a vehicle into her partner's garage door.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene in Ridgetown by the woman's partner at around 3:45 a.m. Friday and learned that the woman had chased the man inside after hitting the garage.

Police found both the man and the woman inside the garage, adding that the woman showed signs of impairment and that officers found an empty container of alcohol in her vehicle.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests and was later charged with two counts of impaired driving, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of mischief.

Her driver's license was suspended for 90 days, her vehicle was impounded, and she was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man arrested in domestic violence case

A 37-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after a verbal argument turned violent in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a residence in Chatham shortly after 12:30 p.m. Thursday for a domestic disturbance and found the victim outside with "visible injuries," which included swelling and bruising around one of her eyes.

The victim told police she had been assaulted during an argument with her partner.

The woman said she had tried to leave as the argument escalated, but her partner prevented her from leaving, which then led to the alleged assault.

The accused was charged with assault and forcible confinement. He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
