Man returns item he didn't pay for

A 44-year-old Chatham man is facing a fraud charge after he allegedly returned an item for a refund even though he had not paid for it.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after they got a tip from a loss prevention officer at a business on Park Avenue East in Chatham about a 44-year-old man who was involved in some suspicious activity at the store on May 17.

Police said the video showed the man entering the store and selecting an item for purchase before he took it to the customer service desk and claimed he was returning it.

He got a refund issued to his credit card and then he left the store.

Officers formed grounds to charge him by reviewing video footage and transaction records.

He was arrested on Tuesday and was charged with fraud before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
