Police find wanted man during routine stop in Wallaceburg

A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man who managed to evade police and a judge for a few weeks won't be able to skip his next scheduled court appearance.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was arrested on May 3 in connection with several investigations before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Officers said the man skipped a scheduled appearance on May 20, though, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police caught up with him again when they were carrying out a routine stop on James Street at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

The accused is charged with five counts of failing to attend court, two counts each of failing to attend court after appearing and failing to comply with an appearance notice, and one count each of assault, assault with a weapon, and mischief.

Chatham man found in vehicle with victim

The law has come calling for a 23-year-old Chatham man accused of skipping a scheduled court appearance earlier this spring.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was initially arrested on February 9 as part of an assault investigation before he was released with conditions, including a requirement to attend court and a ban on contacting the victim in the case.

Police said despite those orders, the man allegedly skipped a scheduled court appearance on April 16 and when officers found him in a vehicle on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Wednesday, a female passenger in the vehicle with him was the victim he had been banned from contacting.

The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with three assault-related offences along with one count each of failing to attend court and failing to comply with his release conditions.

Chatham man arrested after allegedly breaking into victim's home

A 36-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly broke into a home he had been ordered to stay away from.

CK police said they were called to the residence in Chatham shortly after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday after the man allegedly stole some keys that belong to a victim in a domestic violence case where he is the accused.

Officers said after stealing the keys, the man allegedly went into the victim's residence even though he had been ordered by the court not to contact the victim or to come close to her residence.

Police arrested the man a short distance away from the home after he allegedly fled the scene.

He was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He is facing one count each of theft, possession of property obtained by crime, being unlawfully in a dwelling, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
