CK cemetery serves as final stop in Canada Day police chase
A 71-year-old Blenheim woman is facing a handful of charges after a police chase just outside of Ridgetown that ended in a cemetery.
Chatham-Kent police said their pursuit started after they received a report of a suspected impaired driver on Scane Road in Howard Township shortly after 3 p.m. on July 1.
Police said a responding officer spotted the vehicle on O'Neil Line shortly after the report came in and tried to pull the suspect vehicle over.
Officers said the driver didn't stop, though, and continued into a nearby cemetery where police put out some stop sticks and surrounded the vehicle.
Police said at that point, the driver was seen smoking suspected marijuana and refused to get out of the vehicle, unlock the doors, or roll down the windows.
Officers broke a window to get into the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired.
A 71-year-old Blenheim woman was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests.
She was charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, and flight from police before she was released with conditions and a future court date.
