A program that helps communities improve their environment and reduce risks from climate change is holding three public meetings in Chatham-Kent.
The Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) is an initiative funded by Ontario's Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP), and delivered in partnership with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA).
SNAP's goal is to make existing, urban neighbourhoods greener, healthier, and more prepared for climate change.
Officials are in the planning stages and are hosting the first of three drop-in style public meetings in Thamesville on Tuesday, August 12th from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Thamesville Brunner Centre.
The Wallaceburg meeting is set for Thursday, August 14, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre, and a meeting in Wheatley will take place on Thursday, August 21, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Village Resource Centre.
The goal of the meetings is to allow residents to learn about the program, identify opportunities in their neighbourhood, and express interest for SNAP projects on their property.
Examples of SNAP initiatives include planting native trees, landscaping with native plants and flowers, installing rain gardens or rain barrels, naturalizing parks, yards, and school yards, composting, and improving energy use in homes and buildings.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings, and residents are encouraged to RSVP in advance by clicking here.
