The trial for a Chatham-Kent doctor facing multiple sex-related charges involving a minor has been postponed again.
The trial of Dr. Robert Wismer was to begin in Chatham court on Friday, but another matter took priority, according to the judge.
The sexual assault trial is now set to begin on June 1 and is expected to continue on June 8, with September 14 added to make up the lost time on Friday.
The initial trial dates were set for March and May 2026.
Wismer was initially charged in October 2024 with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, and three counts of invitation to sexual touching of persons under 16 years old.
New charges of sexual assault and sexual interference of persons under 16 years old were laid against the doctor a couple of weeks later.
The charges stem from alleged incidents between August 29, 2024, and October 12, 2024.
Wismer is under several release conditions imposed by the court and practice restrictions imposed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
