The Windsor Spitfires are adding some scoring punch in a trade with the Barrie Colts.
In a move Spits GM Warren Rychel calls "a shot in the arm," the team is sending Anthony Stefano, a third round pick in 2019 and a second round pick in 2021 to Barrie in exchange for left winger Brendan Lemieux, a third round pick in 2017 and a fourth round pick in 2020.
Lemieux was a second round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2014. His rights were later traded to Winnipeg, where he signed a deal back in July.
The 19-year-old has 83 goals and 58 assists in 175 OHL games. He's also amassed 370 penalty minutes.
Rychel says, "We want to finish strong this season and get back into the playoffs. This trade will help us this year and next year. We want our guys to learn how to win now, with an eye toward taking a shot at a Memorial Cup in 2017."
Lemieux is the son of former NHL'er Claude Lemieux, and is expected to be in the line-up when the Spitfires take on Mississauga at the WFCU Centre tonight.
In a second trade today, the Spitfires have sent defenceman Liam Murray to Kingston for a third round pick in 2017.
Rychel says this move is to make room on the roster for young players like Tyler Nother and Kyle Auger.
