The Chatham Maroons couldn't complete the series sweep of the St. Thomas Stars, losing on Tuesday 5-4.
The opening period ended up being Chatham's demise, with the Maroons finding themselves down 4-1 after the first.
"They scored two powerplay goals, our goalie didn't see either one. It was just kind of one of those onslaughts." says Head Coach Tyler Roeszler. "We've done a pretty good job the three games prior to this of keeping them off the board, but for some reason they just started hot."
Austin Thompson and Ian Faubert gave Chatham some life in the second frame, scoring the periods only goals to make the game 4-3. Ethan Nother would put the Stars back up by two goals early in the third. Thompson's second goal would be all the Maroons had left in them to bring the final score 5-4, despite Chatham outshooting St. Thomas 52-28.
"We just struggled a little getting pucks out. A little too clustered and just a couple little things in our defensive zone that we need to work on" says Faubert. "Even our PK wasn't too strong at the beginning of the period. Props to them for working and sticking in there."
Faubert and Steven Beenackers each had a goal and two assists for the Maroons. Kyle Dawson had the same tally for the stars.
Chatham still leads the best-of-seven playoff series 3-1. Game five of the quarter-finals goes Thursday at 7pm at Chatham Memorial Arena.
