Four-time Olympic medallist Meghan Agosta has announced her retirement from the Canadian women's hockey team.
She posted the announcement on social media calling her career a dream turned reality. "Looking back now, as I embark on this new chapter, I am overwhelmed with pride. Every moment, every memory, has shaped the career I hold dear," she said.
She thanked her family, her teammates who she called "sisters on the ice", her coaches, friends, and fans.
"It’s been an honour to represent Canada, to wear the red and white with pride, and to inspire the next generation of athletes. Though my time on the ice may have come to an end, the memories and lessons learned will endure a lifetime. As I hang up my skates, I do so with a heart full of gratitude and a profound sense of accomplishment. Thank you, Canada, for the journey of a lifetime," Agosta said.
The Ruthven, Ontario native ranks sixth all-time in goals (85) and points (176) and seventh in assists (91) in 178 career games with the national team.
She won Olympic gold in 2006, 2010, and 2014 and a silver medal in 2018. Agosta also played in eight world championships, earning gold medals in both 2007 and 2012.
In her youth, the forward played for the Chatham-Kent Outlaws and the Chatham-Kent Cyclones.
After the 2014 Olympic Games, Agosta became a Vancouver police constable, managing to balance that with being a wife and mother and her hockey career.
She last played for Canada in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series against the United States.
