Two CK kickboxers begin amateur careers

Two Chatham-Kent residents can officially call themselves amateur kickboxers.

Frank Brady and Nick McCall, both members of Armstrong Academy of Martial Arts, took part in their first fights this past weekend in Windsor.

Brady was able to get the win, while McCall lost his fight.

Coach Thomas Armstrong told CK News Today Brady found himself in a very close match.

"The other guy was better at putting in the combos, but Frank was really able to get a lot of push kicks in that were good, solid point scoring strikes," he said.

Brady ended up beating Michael Robinson of Windsor Muay Thai by split decision.

McCall lost to Saeb Afandibek of Windsor Muay Thai by TKO early in the second round.

"It was really intense and the guy got him with a quick knee to the kidney probably in the first 30 seconds of the fight and he just couldn't get the gas tank back after (the hit) sucked the life out of him," explained Armstrong.

Despite the result, Armstrong was proud of McCall for making it as long as he did after taking the devastating hit.

Also in Windsor was Tyler Hart, who took part in his third career fight.

He was able to beat Nick Dudley of SBG Niagara in the first round by TKO. Armstrong noted Hart was dialed in from the very start.

"The opponent had a standing eight count probably in the first 30 seconds... and then another one and another one," he added.

With the win, Hart's record improves to 2-1.
