Maroons displaying lethal offence to start season

It's only four games into the season, but the Chatham Maroons' offence seems unstoppable.

The team hosted the Welland Jr. Canadians on Thursday and won easily 10-1. Leading scorer Trevor Zanutto had three goals, becoming the first player in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) to reach double-digit points this season.

Dylan Richter added two goals and three assists in the win, while Ian Lachance had a goal and four helpers.

The other four goals were scored by Carter Chadwick, Ewan McChesney, Xandre Aitken, and Evan Krell.

The 10-goal performance means the Maroons have scored 28 times in just four games. This averages to seven goals a game. The St. Thomas Stars are the only team with a better rate. However, they've only played two games, which included a 5-3 loss to the Maroons.

"I think they're just playing with a lot of confidence. When they play with that confidence and swagger, that's going to be our game," said Brennan Feasey, Maroons' head coach and general manager.

The Maroons currently have a goal differential of 19, thanks to strong goaltending from Viljami Kukkola and Blake Verberne, who've allowed only nine goals in the four games.

"They've made all the saves they needed to make. I haven't once said that they should have had that one," added Feasey.

The Maroons' goal differential is currently higher than any team's total goal output, with St. Thomas and Ayr tied with 16 apiece.

The team's next game will be on Sunday at home against the St. Marys Lincolns. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Arena.
