A police investigation into an alleged incident at the off-season home of Patrick Kane has cost the NHL star an endorsement.
Electronic Arts announced Wednesday that the Chicago Blackhawks forward and former London Knight will no longer appear on the cover of its video game, NHL 16.
Kane was to appear on the cover along with teammate Jonathan Toews, marking the second time each player had been on the cover. Kane appeared on the cover of NHL 10, while Toews appeared on the cover of NHL 11.
But Electronic Arts decided to remove Kane from this year's cover in the wake of a police investigation into allegations from a woman who claims she was raped at Kane's home in Hamburg, New York.
A statement from EA Sports reads:
"In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA SPORTSs NHL 16. He will not appear on the EA SPORTS NHL 16 cover nor participate in other EA SPORTS NHL 16 promotional activities."
