After the longest federal campaign since 1872, voters will cast their ballots today.
MPs will be elected in 338 ridings in this election, which is 30 more than in the election of 2011. In London, three incumbents will try to hold on to their seats while voters in one riding will elect a new MP.
Ed Holder (CPC) hopes to stave off a strong challenge from Liberal Kate Young in London West. Matthew Rowlinson is the NDP candidate and Dimitri Lascaris is running for the Green Party in London West.
Holder's caucus colleague Susan Truppe faces a a similar fight to defeat Peter Fragiskatos and prevent London North Centre from going to the Liberals. German Gutierrez is running for the NDP, while Carol Dyck carries the banner for the Green Party.
In London-Fanshawe, Irene Mathyssen looks to keep the riding in the hands of the New Democratic Party. She is challenged by Khalil Ramal of the Liberal Party, Suzanna Dieleman of the Conservatives, and Matthew Peloza of the Green Party.
Voters in Elgin-Middlesex-London will decide which candidate will replace Conservative Joe Preston, who is not running.
If the advance polls are any indication, voter turnout this time should be higher that in the last election. Late last week, Elections Canada announced that roughly 40,000 voters had cast their ballots at advanced polls.
On election day, polls will be open from 9:30am to 9:30pm. Voters will need to have identification showing their address. Government issued ID with your name, photo, and address will be accepted.
