UPDATE: Click here to read more about Alex Anthopoulos' decision to leave the Blue Jays. --- General Manager Alex Anthopoulos is leaving the Blue Jays after rejecting their latest contract offer.
The news comes just days after the Blue Jays were eliminated in Game 6 of the ALCS, the first time the team had made the playoffs in 22 years.
Anthopoulos told media that he had expressed to team officials that he didn't want to negotiate a new contract until the season was over. He deflected questions from the media about his contract at his season wrapup conference on Monday.
The teams leadership is in transition, with incoming team president Mark Shapiro taking over from Paul Beeston, who retires next week. Shapiro's his first task will likely be finding a new general manager.
Bolstered by Anthopoulos's moves at the trade deadline, the Jays had a dream second half this season.
