If last year's event is any indication, London could be in for quite an economic boost when the city hosts Country Music Week in September.
The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) announced Tuesday that Country Music Week 2015, which was held in Halifax, exceeded economic expectations. According to figures from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, it brought in $11.8-million in economic activity, generating a total of $5.5-million in new GDP for Nova Scotia.
Of the more than 14,500 people who took in one or more events during the week, 3,800 were from outside of the province.
The 40th anniversary of Country Music Week comes to London September 8-11, 2016. The London host committee picked up a few pointers when they traveled to Halifax for last year's event.
In a statement the committee says "having the opportunity to work with the Halifax team was invaluable toward our efforts to prepare for the 40th Anniversary of Country Music Week, and in bringing the CCMA Awards Show to London. We look forward to sharing many exciting announcements in the coming months and anticipate positive economic and cultural impacts for London."
