Central Library Closed Due To Power Outage

A power issue has forced the London Public Library to temporarily close its central branch.

The Central Library on Dundas St. lost power around 8am Tuesday. The outage affects the locations' computer systems and all power including lights.

Ellen Hobin, manager of communications at London Public Library says the outage has also knocked out internet service to all other library branches, however they will remain open.

"It does affect our branch libraries in that their internet and a lot of their computer functions, like the cataloguing and website won't be running," Hobin says. "But they'll be doing all the old school things that we did for years. So you can still check materials out, we'll just be doing that by hand. And our staff is there, and programs that don't require use of the internet at our branches will be running."

Library officials are still trying to determine the cause of the outage. The Central Library will remain closed until the power can be restored.

Hobin says, the library will keep people updated on how long they expect the outage to last on their social media accounts.

"Right now we're using social media, but once power is back up we'll have information on our website, our phone systems will be working again," says Hobin. "When the power is out we're limited to our Twitter and our Facebook channels and the community has been really great, with sharing the news as well."
