Tragically Hip fans in London will be able to gather as one to celebrate and say goodbye to the iconic band on the day of their final show.
Tourism London announced Monday it will hold the "Long Time Running" celebration beginning at noon on August 20 at London Music Hall. The day long event features family friendly programming during the day and a viewing party of the band's farewell concert being performed live in their hometown of Kingston in the evening.
Regional emerging artists will be performing Tragically Hip songs leading up to the CBC's live streaming of the final show.
“Our goal is to come together to celebrate the music and to recognize the support The Tragically Hip have given to emerging bands throughout their entire career,” says Chris Campbell, director of culture and entertainment tourism at Tourism London. “They have done so much for other artists and their fans and London appreciates all they have given.”
From 12pm until the end of the evening, fans are encouraged to leave a 30 second video message thanking the band. It will be shared online following the concert.
The event is free to the public, although donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation, the band's charity of choice, are being accepted.
Tickets for the band's 15-date summer tour became a hot commodity after lead singer, Gord Downie revealed he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in December.
The Hip bring their Man Machine Poem Tour to Budweiser Gardens on August 8.
