Police say there were fewer collisions on the streets of London in 2016 compared to 2015, but there were still too many.
According to police statistics released Thursday, there were nearly 8,500 crashes in the city last year. That's down from more than 10,000 in 2015. Once again, the intersection of Wellington Rd. and Exeter Rd. saw the most crashes. In fact, the four intersections that saw the most crashes in 2016 were the same four that saw the most the year before.
The following list shows the number of collisions at each intersection and, in brackets, where that intersection was on the list of high collision intersections in 2015.
84 collisions Wellington/ Exeter (1)
78 collisions Wellington/ Commissioners (2)
74 collisions Highbury/ Oxford (3)
71 collisions Wharncliffe/ Oxford (4)
70 collisions Oxford/ Richmond (9)

Police say distracted, impaired, and aggressive driving are still the main causes of collisions in London.
"The fact remains though that nearly all collisions are preventable and despite repeated warnings, educational campaigns and improvements in legislation 8500 collisions are 8500 too many,'' police said in a release issued Thursday morning. "This is still a number that can decline annually and if we all work together we can continue to drive this number down."
Police are asking drivers to do their part to reduce the number of collisions. They say drivers need to acknowledge and change their own bad driving habits.
