Accused Killer Nurse Had History Of Giving Wrong Meds

A former nurse accused of killing eight residents of long-term care homes in Woodstock and London, had a history of providing the incorrect medication to patients.

According to search warrants obtained by the London Free Press, 49-year-old Elizabeth Wettlaufer was warned regularly and suspended four times from Caressant Care in Woodstock where seven of her alleged victims died. The eighth murder she is accused of, occurred at Meadow Park nursing home in London. All of the residents died between 2007 and 2014.

Wettlaufer, who is from Woodstock, is charged with eight counts of first degree murder. She is also facing four counts of attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault, in relation to residents of long-term care homes in Woodstock and Paris, as well as a private home in Oxford County.

According to the warrants, Wettlaufer was fired from Caressant Care on March 31, 2014 for providing the wrong medications.  She was also asked to not return to Telfer Place nursing home in Paris in March 2016, due to her treatment of the staff.

The warrants also show that Wettlaufer checked herself into a Toronto psychiatric facility on September 16, 2016.

Wettlaufer recently appeared in court on March 17 and has remained in custody since her arrest back in October 2016.  Her next court appearance is on April 7.
